Ideas for School Recipe Books
Developing a recipe book is a great way to celebrate the food culture of your school community.
When choosing recipes, consider whether they:
- Use affordable and easily accessible ingredients.
- Are based around foods from the five food groups:
- Bread, cereal, rice and pasta
- Vegetables
- Fruit
- Meat, chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, lentils/beans, nuts and seeds
- Milk, yoghurt and cheese
- Feature a variety of fruits and vegetables.
- Use small amounts of monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats or oils e.g. olive, sunflower or canola oil.
- Use reduced salt condiments, sauces, stocks or tinned vegetables.
- Use low-fat dairy products e.g. yoghurt, milk or cheese.
- In sweet recipes include high fibre ingredients like fruit, wholemeal flour or oats.
- Celebrate Tasmanian farmers and producers by using local and seasonal produce.
